    EPA selects Alaska Forum and Zender Environmental Health and Research Group for $1 million in Brownfield Environmental Job Training Grants

    December 14, 2022 Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the selection of the Alaska Forum and Zender Environmental Health and Research Group in Alaska, to receive a total of $1 million in grants for environmental job training programs funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The grants are among 29 new grants awarded nationally through EPA’s Brownfields Job Training Program to recruit, train, and place workers for community revitalization and cleanup projects at brownfield sites. “President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is supercharging EPA’s Brownfields Program, which is transforming blighted sites, protecting public health, and creating economic opportunities in more overburdened communities than ever before,” said EPA Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe.…

    Michigan’s effort to seal abandoned oil and gas wells has received a major funding boost through a $25 million Department of the Interior grant. Made possible by the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act 2021 (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Section 40601, the IIJA stimulus funding includes three tranches of money that states can apply for including an initial grant of up to $25 million, a formula grant, and regulatory improvement grant.     The state’s biggest and most expensive hospital system is promising to cut health care costs by $70 million a year. Mass General Brigham submitted the cost-cutting plan this week after the state Health Policy Commission said it has a “spending problem,” and required it to take action. Mass General Brigham said it will lower the prices of its medical services by almost $54 million a year — an unusual step for a health system that has long argued its prices are justified.
