Palos Health merging with Northwestern Medicine

Palos Health, with its 425-bed hospital in Palos Heights and a south campus in Orland Park, is set to merge with Northwestern Medicine Jan. 1, 2021, the health care systems announced Thursday.

Palos Health, which has about 2,800 employees at its two facilities, announced in September it had signed a letter of intent to join Northwestern.

“We look forward to welcoming Palos Health to Northwestern Medicine,” Dean M. Harrison, president and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, said in a statement. “We will join the physicians and staff of Palos Health to provide convenient access to world class care in the southwest suburbs.”

Northwestern Memorial HealthCare is the corporate parent of the Northwestern Medicine health system, which has a medical staff of more than 4,000 that sees patients at more than 200 sites across Chicago. It operates 10 hospitals, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

“This affiliation will only serve to enhance the already excellent quality of care provided to the community of Palos Health,” said Dr. Terrence Moisan, president and CEO of Palos Health. “As a part of Northwestern Medicine, we will be able to further develop and grow specialized services for our patients and community. We look forward to a bright future together.”

Palos Health had explored merging with Loyola Medicine in early 2019, but those talks ended without a deal.
