Nearly half of health care workers remain unvaccinated, survey finds

211. WE HAVE AN UPDATE ON A KCRA3 INVESTIGATION A NEW SURVEY OF FRONTLINE HEALTH CARE WORKERS FINDS NEARLY HALF ARE STILL NOT VACCINATED. THIS IS A STORY. WE’VE BEEN TRACKING FOR MONTHS NOW KCRA 3’S BRITTANY JOHNSON JOINS. LIVE NOW FROM KAISER WITH THIS SURVEY AND ALSO SOME ANSWERS ABOUT WHY SOME PEOPLE IN THIS GROUP ARE CHOOSING NOT TO GET THE VACCINE. THAT’S RIGHT EATING WHAT WE DO KNOW THAT HEALTHCARE WORKERS WERE THE FIRST IN THE US TO BE OFFERED CORONAVIRUS VACCINES, BUT THREE MONTHS INTO THIS THIS NEW NATIONWIDE SURVEY DONE BY KAISER FAMILY FOUNDATION SAYS SOME STILL REMAIN UNCONVINCED. LET’S TAKE A CLOSER. LOOK AT THOSE NUMBERS TONIGHT THERE. WE SEE 52{b5d304c96e94113bdfc523ff4218a1efff4746200bdb9eeb3214a56a1302f2e4} OF FRONTLINE FRONTLINE HEALTH CARE WORKERS SURVEY SAY HAVE RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE DOSE OF A COVID-19 VACCINE 48{b5d304c96e94113bdfc523ff4218a1efff4746200bdb9eeb3214a56a1302f2e4} HAVE NOT THE UNVACCINATED GROUP INCLUDES SOME WHO EITHER HAVE THEIR VACCINATION SCHEDULED PLAN TO GET VACCINATED BUT HAVEN’T SCHEDULED IT YET HAVE NOT DECIDED IF THEY’LL GET THE VACCINE OR SAY THEY DO NOT PLAN ON GETTING ONE 82{b5d304c96e94113bdfc523ff4218a1efff4746200bdb9eeb3214a56a1302f2e4} OF UNVACCINATED HEALTHCARE WORKERS SAY THEY’RE WORRIED ABOUT POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS. 81{b5d304c96e94113bdfc523ff4218a1efff4746200bdb9eeb3214a56a1302f2e4} ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE NEWNESS OF IT THE SURVEY ENCOMPASSES A RANGE OF HEALTHCARE WORKERS FROM FRONTLINE INFECTIOUS. THESE DOCTORS TO SOME HEALTH AIDS ACCORDING TO THE SURVEY ANOTHER REASON SOME HEALTH CARE WORKERS REMAIN UNVACCINATED IS ACCESS. FOR EXAMPLE THOSE THAT ARE WORKING IN A HOSPITAL SETTING A LOT OF HOSPITALS ARE PROVIDING ACCESS TO A VACCINE FOR THEIR WORKERS. AND SO WE SEE TWO-THIRDS OF THOSE WORKING IN A HOSPITAL SAY THAT THEY’VE BEEN VACCINATED THOSE THAT REMAIN UNVACCINATED TEND TO BE THOSE THAT ARE WORKING IN PATIENT HOMES, SO THEY’RE NOT WORKING DIRECTLY IN A HEALTHCARE SETTING. OR YOU KNOW WORKING IN A NURSING HOME THAT MAY NOT HAVE PROVIDED VACCINES FOR THEIR WORKERS. WELL, THE SURVEY ALSO FOUND THAT PARTISAN POLITICS DID PLAY A ROLE IN THIS WITH DEMOCRATS SAYING MORE DEMOCRATS SAYING THEY HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED THE VACCINE AND REPUBLICANS MORE THAN LIKELY TO EXPRESS UNCERTAINTY OR CONCERNS ABOUT THE VACCINES REPORTING LIVE IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO.
