GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – For more than 40 years, Gainesville Health and Fitness has served the community and after reopening during the summer due to the pandemic— it came back stronger than ever.
“When we use the tagline, the healthiest place in Gainesville, it is a sincere tagline,” added owner of GHF, Joe Cirulli.
Nothing could have prepared the team at the facility for COVID-19 in 2020. The gym closed in March and reopened in May with a new outlook on the health aspect of their namesake.
“It’s not something we’re saying, ‘well we’re kind of the healthiest’,” added Cirulli. “I’m going to tell you, we are the healthiest. You know, when everything was shut down back last march. The first thing I started looking toward or forward to, is how can we create the absolute safest environment when people come into the center?”
Masks, UV lights that kill covid-19 on surfaces and in the air and keeping clean are not the only ways Cirulli keeps people healthy.
“We started having our virtual class, it’s 6 am on Tuesdays and it’s what I normally teach,” added trainer Adrienne Vihlen.
Online training is an option for members who need their workout but can’t leave their home because of the pandemic. Vihlen live-teaches high intensity interval training (HIIT) virtually twice a week— anyone can watch her videos on GHF Facebook page.
“I think I’ve been very grateful that the gym, Gainesville Health and Fitness has given me the opportunity to provide such an extreme option whether in person or virtual for our members because it’s not just for members,” mentioned Vihlen. “Really anyone on Facebook can join my class and they do, people outside. So I’ve been really grateful they’ve provided that to our community and basically everyone.”
